How often do you check your facebook page? Once a day? twice? More than that? How long could you go without peeking? Do you think about your days events in short one or two sentances to post in your status bar? Do you post more than once a day? Could you delete your account?
1 Thessalonians 4:9-12
"But concerning brotherly love you have no need that I should write you for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another; and indeed you do...but we urge you, brethren, that you increase more and more; that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we have commanded you, that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and that you may lack nothing."
"...and that you may lack nothing." Powerful words. Praise, adoration, intelligence, acceptance, sympathy, recognition, and information. Aggrivation, annoyance, jealousy, envy, self-doubt, superiority, spite, and anger. All things we seek and recieve from facebook.
Be in praise always that this is not the world/life we will endure forever. When you are not great enough to face whats around you, turn and thank God you will not perish here. The long arms of darkness are weak and limp in the light of Gods glory.
Facebook might not be a problem for you, however there are too many out there that it IS a problem for. You may be on the receiving end of abusive posts or you may be the one writting them. You may be simply informing everyone about your daily events hour by hour or day by day, or you may just be a nosey neighbor medeling in everyone elses business. Whatever the case may be, be sensitive in what you write. Writing about how your wonderful husband is who brought you flowers and made you dinner and is the greatest husband in the whole world, can cause unnecessary strife in another.
I kept debating whether or not I should delete my account. I just couldn't give up all my contacts though! So I decided to unsubscribe from everyone for a week. Wow. It was so peaceful and quiet when I logged in to check my fb page.I wasn't side-tracked for 30 minutes by reading 20 or so different tidbits of conversations. It's pretty much like an email now, I still receive all messages, just not other peoples posts.
Its been a couple weeks now and Im finding it hard to start subscribing again. I've really been enjoying not comparing myself to others 'perfect' days, or my children to theirs, or my marriage to theirs. My thoughts have been quieter.
So I challenge you. Unsubscribe from everyone. Do you know how? There's a small icon that appears on the right by the persons name. Click on the persons name and the icon appears, it kind of looks like a ribbon or a bookmark or something like that. Click on that and near the bottom theres the choice to unsubscribe. I think you should try it. It made a great difference for me. Maybe it will for you too!
